Wheeler Farm has gone into pumpkin mode: the patch, the maze and the playland open Friday, and the Sunday market keeps running on the other side of the property. Millcreek Common gets three market days of its own before Saturday is over. The indoor picks all start at six or later. Kingsbury Hall on Thursday at 7:30, a free yoga class at the art museum on Wednesday at six, a preview in a studio at Westminster after that. Nobody is asking about patio season anymore, which is its own kind of answer. | Wheeler Farm's Sunday market is the easy callThe Wheeler Farm Sunday Market opens at 9 on Sunday, on a working county farm rather than in a parking lot. Salt Lake County runs the place, which is most of why the grounds stay open around the market. It is also the rare pick that works for a four-year-old and for somebody who moved to Millcreek in June and is still building a Sunday routine. Nine in the morning is early for a Sunday. It is also the hour before the crowd arrives. Sunday is the one day this week with nothing else on the list competing for the morning. If you go: 9am at Wheeler Farm, walk the farm first, vendors second, and bring a bag you can carry with one hand. |

No canyon report this week. I could not confirm a condition at the mouth of Big Cottonwood or in Millcreek Canyon that I would stand behind. An invented trail report is worse than no trail report. So here is the practical version. Four of this week's picks happen outdoors. The Sunday market and Tuesday's food trucks at Wheeler Farm, the Friday market at Millcreek Common, the Monday class on the Skate Loop. The Friday market runs latest, to 9pm, and two of the four start at or after five. Sunday's is the only one that happens in the morning. Send me the thing you are running. A market, a class or a show on the east bench goes to Spot Me with the date, the time, the price and the venue. Which trailhead at the mouth of Big Cottonwood do you give up on first when the lot is full? Nobody goes to the Wheeler Farm market for the bread and nobody leaves without it, which is the whole case for the one-hand bag rule. Whatever fits in one hand is the budget. Reply and tell me which market you shop and which one you only walk through. Then forward the Bench Press to whoever in your group text owns four pumpkin carving knives and no pumpkins. |
