BENCH NOTE:A fire in 1893 gutted the old Cottonwood paper mill, and in 1927 it reopened as the Old Mill Club, an open-air dance hall. source Forwarded this? Get your own Set, free, every Thursday. Sugar House Park is forecast to reach 73 today, mostly sunny until it is not, in the third week of October. The patio question is open for one more afternoon. Tonight it closes: showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 48. We will sit outside anyway, briefly, as if the forecast were a suggestion. | Hogle Zoo goes after dark for nine nightsHogle Halloween takes over Utah's Hogle Zoo after dark, nightly from Thursday through Friday, October 30, with lights, live entertainment and glowing displays. It is billed as family-friendly. Costumes are welcome, on kids and on whoever drove. Tickets for Hogle Halloween are $24.95 for an adult and $19.95 for a child, with members at $17.95. It runs 6:30 to 9:30 PM each night. Arriving at 6:30 is the move for anyone with a bedtime. It is this week's pick because it works for a family and works for a date night, and very little else on the list does both. Nine nights also leaves room to dodge the weather. Thursday night is the one to dodge. |

Thursday night at Sugar House Park brings showers and thunderstorms and a low of 48, per the NWS forecast. Thursday daytime runs 73. Anything outdoors Thursday evening wants a backup plan. As of 12:06pm Wednesday, NWS had no active alerts for Sugar House Park or Brighton. Air in the Salt Lake City reporting area read AQI 61, Moderate at 11am, from PM10. We read every reply, including the ones that argue. This week's question: What is the one place on the bench you would never tell a newcomer about, and should we print it? Send us yours, and we will ask before printing anything. I would circle Spooktacular. A free Halloween night on a Monday at 5:00 is the rare plan that asks nothing of the weekend. The food trucks mean nobody has to cook dinner either. Halloween itself lands on a Saturday this year, and the maze at Wheeler stays open through it. Set #7, racked.
